Iron Canyon Reservoir

Tucked in the mountains somewhat near the small town of Big bend CA. Is a fairly hidden prime trout fishery, But you have to time it right for ideal conditions for fly fishing the reservoir should be at low pool. When full this lake becomes to deep and hard to access the fish, but when low this lake will put on a show. Well up a bumpy muddy country road leads to a decent size reservoir that's actually filled by the mccloud river believe it or not, pumped up the hill to later add to the pit river power project. But all that cold clean water from the McCloud grows fish to excellent proportions and you'll find plenty of rainbows, browns, and even a few brooks too. Not much shore action here so a boat is best but a float tube or pontoon will suffice as well. 4-6 wt rods with floating lines will cover most situations but one might also want to bring a sink-tip or full sink line to get down. Running an indicator with a bugger pattern can be very effective, the key being to let it sit til its straight up an down, then give a few quick strips before letting it settle again... then repeat.
