A Group of family and friends from Oregon and California who travel to meet on the common ground of fly fishing, to camp, joke, tell stories, and sometimes even catch fish. To many more trips with good times and tight lines.
Upper Sacramento River
The original Five fly's river, and still one of the best. Making its long journey to lake Shasta the upper sac tumbles and splashes gathering momentum and size as well as many tributaries while flowing through countless runs and pools. Access is outstanding running alongside I-5 there are many small pull-outs leading down to the water and for the fit angler the railroad follows right next to or near the river for its entirety. Dunsmuir makes for an ideal starting putting you right in the heart of the action, one can either head north to the headwaters or south for miles and miles before you meet Shasta, and everywhere you go you'll find good fishable water. Rainbows provide the action here and there are many fish with a wide range in size but all seem hard fighting, helped by the cold clear water flowing from lake Siskiyou. New regulations now makes this a year round fishery, and in all but the highest flows is fishable making an ideal Fly's trip any time of year. 4-6 wt with a floating will manage most nymphing and dry fly opportunities, but a sink tip will allow access to some of the deeper pools. Cave springs is a great hotel with river access right behind the hotel but camping can also be found in the warmer months as well.
